In October, SAG-AFTRA announced that the prolonged seven-month strike by video game performers continues to be largely isolated, with negotiations primarily stalling over the issue of artificial intelligence (AI) protections. A spokesperson for the industry revealed that the negotiating parties had successfully reached consensus on 24 out of 25 proposals, indicating significant progress in discussions.
However, the unresolved matter surrounding AI remains a critical sticking point. The performers are advocating for safeguards to ensure that their work is not exploited or replaced by AI technologies. This issue has become increasingly prominent in various sectors, raising concerns about the future of creative professions.
As the strike persists, both sides are under pressure to find a resolution that addresses the performers' concerns while allowing the industry to move forward. The outcome of these negotiations could set a precedent for how AI is integrated into the creative workforce in the coming years.
