July 2026 Brings a Stack of Heavy Hitters and One Rage Quit Waiting to Happen

July 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest months for new game releases in recent memory. The lineup spans major franchise comebacks, indie darlings, and at least one title that seems designed specifically to test your patience and your hardware's durability.

Leading the charge is the next entry in the Assassin's Creed series. Ubisoft is finally ready to deliver a new chapter after a longer-than-usual gap between mainline games. Early previews suggest a return to a more focused, stealth-driven experience, though the massive open world is still very much intact. Fans of the older games are cautiously optimistic.

In a move nobody saw coming, Backyard Baseball is making a comeback. The beloved kids' sports series from the late 90s and early 2000s is getting a full modern re-release with updated rosters and, yes, the return of Pablo Sanchez. The developers have confirmed that the secret weapon of the backyard diamond will still be the tiny kid with the huge swing. Nostalgia alone might carry this one to the top of the sales charts.

Then there is the game that has everyone talking and, for some, throwing things. A new title heavily inspired by Hotline Miami is dropping this month. It promises the same neon-drenched pixel art, the same one-hit-kill mechanics, and the same brutal difficulty that made the original a cult classic. The developer has already warned players to expect "frequent, unavoidable deaths." Based on early demo footage, the phrase "yeet my Steam Deck into a wall" is being thrown around in online forums more than a few times.

Rounding out the month are several smaller but notable releases, including a narrative-driven horror game set in an abandoned Antarctic research station and a co-op survival crafting game that lets you build a base on the back of a giant roaming creature. July is going to be expensive, and potentially very loud if you live near someone playing that Hotline Miami clone.
