If you step into Jurassic Park in a video game, there is really only one thing you want: dinosaurs, and plenty of them. Over the years, developers have tried to capture the thrill of seeing a T-Rex break through a fence or the terror of being hunted by raptors. Some games failed, but a few truly spared no expense. Here are the five best.
First on the list is "Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis." This 2003 simulation game let players build their own dinosaur theme park. It mixed management with chaos, forcing you to balance guest happiness against the inevitable breakout. It remains the gold standard for anyone who wanted to be John Hammond.
Next is "Jurassic Park: The Game" from Telltale. This point-and-click adventure filled in gaps from the first movie. It had a strong story and tough choices, even if the quick-time events could be frustrating. The dinosaur encounters were tense and cinematic.
Third is "LEGO Jurassic World." This game retold all four films with LEGO humor. It was fun for all ages, letting you smash bricks and play as dozens of characters, from Alan Grant to a stampeding Gallimimus.
Fourth is "Jurassic Park: Trespasser." It was a technical mess on release, but it was ambitious. It featured a real-time physics system and a wounded arm that made aiming hard. For its time, it tried to create a truly open dinosaur island.
Finally, "Jurassic World Evolution" takes the fifth spot. This modern park builder from 2018 is deep and beautiful. You manage genetics, build enclosures, and watch your creations escape. It is the closest thing to running a real dinosaur park today.
