World Video Game Hall of Fame reveals 12 finalists for 2026

The race for gaming immortality is on as the World Video Game Hall of Fame announces its twelve finalists for the class of 2026. This eclectic list spans decades and genres, showcasing the diverse and enduring impact of interactive entertainment.
The nominees include legendary titles that defined their eras, such as the groundbreaking first-person shooter Asteroids, the iconic puzzle game Myst, and the massively influential simulation SimCity. The list also honors more recent cultural phenomena, including the blockbuster survival game Minecraft and the rhythm sensation Guitar Hero.
Other notable contenders range from the arcade classic Neo Geo to the beloved adventure Resident Evil, the strategic Civilization series, and the party favorite Wii Sports. Rounding out the selection are Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, You Don’t Know Jack, and SpaceWars!, each representing a unique pillar of gaming history.
A panel of international experts will now deliberate on these finalists, evaluating them on criteria including their icon status, longevity, geographical reach, and overall influence on the industry and popular culture. The final inductees will be unveiled later this year, securing their permanent place in the hallowed halls of The Strong National Museum of Play.
