UFC 6 Review, Gameplay Impressions, Top Modes, Features and Videos

EA Vancouver's latest entry in the fighting franchise proves that taking a breather from the yearly grind can pay off. UFC 6 does not feel like a roster update or a minor patch. It feels like a genuine attempt to rethink how a mixed martial arts game should play.

The biggest change is in the striking system. The new physics engine makes punches and kicks feel heavier. You can no longer spam the same combo without getting punished. The game rewards patience and timing. If you throw a wild hook and miss, you will pay for it. The ground game also got a facelift. Transitions are smoother, and the submission mini-game has been simplified without losing its tension. It is easier to learn but still hard to master.

The career mode is the standout feature. You start as a prospect in the regional scene and work your way up. The training system now lets you focus on specific weaknesses without grinding boring drills. You can hire coaches, pick sponsors, and even deal with media obligations. It is not a deep RPG, but it gives the mode a sense of purpose.

Online modes are solid, though the matchmaking can be slow at peak hours. The live events feature lets you fight on the same card as real UFC events, which adds a fun layer of immersion. Presentation is sharp. The commentary is less repetitive than before, and the arenas look alive.

If you skipped the last few entries, this is the one to buy. It is not perfect, but it is the best the series has been in years.
