Activision has officially confirmed that Call of Duty Warzone will be shut down on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The decision comes as the company prepares to launch the next installment in the series, widely referred to as Modern Warfare 4. Players on last-generation hardware will lose access to the free-to-play battle royale mode once the new title is released.

The move is not entirely unexpected. Warzone has been running on older consoles since its debut in 2020, and the game's engine and content updates have increasingly strained the capabilities of PS4 and Xbox One hardware.
